Dying in a
duel to the death and waking up in a fantasy realm sounds like the classic
cliché of any modern story, but when the protagonist is a muscular martial
artist who blindly trusts his fists, the formula transforms into pure madness.
The company TMS Anime officially confirmed that the crazy
spin-off manga Baki Gaiden: Retsu Kaioh wa Isekai Tensei Shitemo Ikko
ni Kamawan will make the leap to television with its own animated
adaptation.
The story
begins just after the legendary Retsu Kaioh loses his life in
a fierce fight against the swordsman Musashi Miyamoto. Far from resting in
peace, the formidable fighter awakens in a parallel world full of fantastic
creatures, knights and magic users. However, instead of seeking special
abilities or asking goddesses for help, Retsu decides to use her own hands and
her devastating technique to prove to this new universe that the 4,000-year
history of Chinese kenpo is superior to any spell or monster.
The
original work illustrated by Eiji Mutsui, with Sai Ihara's story
and concept by Keisuke Itagaki, began publication in 2020
within Akita Shoten's Monthly Shonen Champion magazine. With
more than two million copies in circulation between its physical and digital
editions, the title became one of the most beloved spin-off stories of the
franchise, to the point of also having a stage adaptation scheduled for March
2027.
Created
by Keisuke Itagaki in 1991, Baki the Grappler is
one of the most iconic and violent martial arts sagas in the anime and
manga industry, boasting multiple sequels such as Baki, Hanma
Baki, Baki-Dou, and the current Baki Rahen. Within
this universe, Retsu Kaioh stands out as one of the most
respected characters: a high-ranking teacher trained at the Byakurin temple,
characterized by his absolute devotion to his discipline. Its arrival in
the isekai genre promises to maintain the visceral and
exaggerated combats that identify the franchise, but adapted to a completely
new setting.
