During the Yomiuri TV panel at the Anime Expo 2025, it was revealed that the manga The Vermilion Mask, the work of Dr. Poro and Nabana Naba, will be adapted into anime. Although a release date has not yet been confirmed, the announcement was accompanied by a subtitled promotional video and the introduction of the main production team.

A first-class technical team

The adaptation will be directed by Tetsuaki Watanabe (BLUE LOCK Season 1), with Gai Hazako as assistant director at 100studio. The series will be composed by Daisuke Ohigashi (Fate/strange Fake), while Hisashi Higashijima (MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES) will oversee the story and character designs. Fumiyuki Goh (Kaiju No. 8) will be the sound director and Arisa Okehazama (JUJUTSU KAISEN) will compose the music.

According to Watanabe, the authors have been directly involved in the development of the script from its early stages, ensuring a faithful adaptation that fans and new viewers alike will be able to enjoy.

A history marked by tragedy and redemption

The Vermilion Mask began publication in February 2021 in Shonengahosha's Young King Ours magazine, and to date has eight compilation volumes. The story revolves around Peru, apprenticed to legendary mask artisan Gaston Lou. After being possessed by the "Mask of the Warrior God", he loses control and accidentally murders his master and companions.

Ravaged by guilt, Peru embarks on a mission of redemption: to destroy all the masks created by his master, which have been scattered around the world. Each possesses immense and dangerous power, capable of granting amazing abilities or causing unimaginable catastrophes.

An epic battle for masks begins

On its journey, Peru will face powerful enemies and meet unexpected allies, while the fate of the world hangs in the balance. This action-fantasy story promises thrilling showdowns and intense psychological drama in every episode.

The official website and the X account (formerly Twitter) are now available to follow all the news of the project. The authors also shared commemorative illustrations following the announcement.
