During the Crunchyroll panel at the Anime Expo 2025, it was officially announced that the manga Daemons of the Shadow Realm (Yomi no Tsugai), created by Hiromu Arakawa, will receive an anime adaptation. The project will be in charge of the renowned Studio Bones, and Crunchyroll confirmed that it will broadcast the series internationally.

A high-level production team

Masahiro Andō (Sword of the Stranger) will be directed, while Noboru Takagi (Golden KamuyKingdom) will oversee the script. Character design will be done by Nobuhiro Arai (Bungo Stray Dogs), and Kenichiro Suehiro (Re:ZERO, Golden Kamuy) will be in charge of the music.

The announcement was accompanied by a promotional trailer and an official visual, which offer a first look at the dark and mysterious tone that will dominate this new production.

What is Daemons of the Shadow Realm about?

Published by Square Enix since December 2021, the story takes place in a secluded mountain village guarded by two enigmatic stone statues. Yuru lives there, a young man who enjoys a simple life with his twin sister Asa, who is locked in a cage while fulfilling a strange "duty" imposed on her by the village.

But this seeming paradise hides sinister secrets, and soon Yuru will discover truths that will change her destiny forever.

The long-awaited return of Hiromu Arakawa

The author, recognized worldwide for Fullmetal Alchemist and Silver Spoon, once again captivates readers with a work that mixes dark fantasy, drama and supernatural elements. His new series already has nine volumes published, with the tenth to be released on July 11.

With the backing of a top-notch creative team and Arakawa's seal of quality, Daemons of the Shadow Realm is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated anime of the coming months.
