During
the Crunchyroll panel at the Anime Expo 2025, it
was officially announced that the manga Daemons of the Shadow Realm (Yomi
no Tsugai), created by Hiromu Arakawa, will receive an anime
adaptation. The project will be in charge of the renowned Studio Bones,
and Crunchyroll confirmed that it will broadcast the series internationally.
A
high-level production team
Masahiro
Andō (Sword
of the Stranger) will be directed, while Noboru Takagi (Golden
Kamuy, Kingdom) will oversee the script. Character design will
be done by Nobuhiro Arai (Bungo Stray Dogs), and Kenichiro
Suehiro (Re:ZERO, Golden Kamuy) will be in charge
of the music.
The
announcement was accompanied by a promotional trailer and
an official visual, which offer a first look at the dark and
mysterious tone that will dominate this new production.
What is
Daemons of the Shadow Realm about?
Published
by Square Enix since December 2021, the story takes place in a
secluded mountain village guarded by two enigmatic stone statues. Yuru
lives there, a young man who enjoys a simple life with his twin
sister Asa, who is locked in a cage while fulfilling a strange
"duty" imposed on her by the village.
But this
seeming paradise hides sinister secrets, and soon Yuru will
discover truths that will change her destiny forever.
The
long-awaited return of Hiromu Arakawa
The author,
recognized worldwide for Fullmetal Alchemist and Silver
Spoon, once again captivates readers with a work that mixes dark
fantasy, drama and supernatural elements. His new series already has nine
volumes published, with the tenth to be released on July 11.
With the
backing of a top-notch creative team and Arakawa's seal of quality, Daemons
of the Shadow Realm is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated
anime of the coming months.
