During
the Anime NYC 2025 event, the publisher Kodansha announced
several surprises that will arrive in autumn 2026. These include new
publications by Eisner Award-winning trans author Yuna Hirasawa and
a long-awaited omnibus edition of Harold Sakuishi's classic
musical manga BECK.
Yuna
Hirasawa: Personal Stories and Fantasy Worlds
Yuna
Hirasawa's acclaimed
My Journey to Her, which was previously only available digitally,
will debut in print in autumn 2026. This autobiographical work chronicles the
author's transition process from the diagnosis of gender dysphoria to her
affirmation surgery in 2015, exploring with honesty and humor themes such as
transphobia, loneliness, and the path to self-acceptance. The story combines
manga and prose, offering an intimate and moving look.
Luca the
Dragon Vet: fantasy and dragons
That same
year, Kodansha will also release Luca the Dragon Vet, a manga set
in a world where humans fly over dragons. The protagonist, Luca,
dreams of becoming a veterinarian for these majestic creatures, although she
will have to face tough academic tests and in the shadow of her family. A
fantasy proposal with medical overtones that will delight fans of Witch
Hat Atelier and The Apothecary Diaries.
The
return of BECK in omnibus edition
Harold
Sakuishi's BECK manga
will be republished in physical format with an omnibus edition in 2-in-1
volumes. The story follows Yukio Tanaka, a 14-year-old teenager who
leads a boring and aimless life, until he meets Ryusuke Minami, a
young guitarist who has just returned from the United States accompanied by his
dog Beck. Inspired by him, Yukio enters the world of music,
starting a journey full of dreams, friendship and rock and roll.
Considered
a cult work, BECK not only cemented Sakuishi's career, but
also inspired a popular anime adaptation that brought Japanese rock to an
entire generation of fans.
An
unmissable autumn for manga readers
With these
publications, autumn 2026 promises to be a special period for both those
looking for deep and personal works and for lovers of musical and nostalgic
manga. Kodansha is strongly committed to bringing together new generations of
readers and veteran fans around two very different, but equally powerful,
proposals.
