The most
uncontrolled college comedy in anime is back: Grand Blue will
have a third season. The announcement was made after the broadcast
of the final episode of the second installment, accompanied by a visual
teaser that confirms the new setting: this time, the story will take
the protagonists to Palau, marking the first time that the plot
takes place outside of Japan.
Grand
Blue Dreaming,
known simply as Grand Blue, is a manga written by Kenji
Inoue and illustrated by Kimitake Yoshioka. It is
published in Good! Kodansha's Afternoon since April 2014 and
has become a benchmark for unbridled comedy, mixing diving, university life and
absurd humor that has made it a cult title.
From
anime to live-action
The first
television adaptation came in 2018 from the Zero-G studio,
with 12 episodes that quickly conquered fans. Subsequently, in 2020, the
franchise made the leap to the cinema with a live-action film. Its second
season, released in 2024, was run by ZERO-G and Liber studios,
with Shinji Takamatsu directing, writing the script, and
supervising the sound.
What's
next in Palau
Although no
plot details have yet been given, the fact that the new season takes place in
Palau opens the door to a paradisiacal setting that will surely combine
underwater landscapes with the irreverent humor that characterizes Grand
Blue. In addition, the main team of the second season is expected to return
to their respective positions, maintaining the consistency of the production.
