During
the Aniplex Online Fest, the first details of the anime Oni
no Hanayome (Bride of the Ogre), an adaptation of Kureha's light
novels, were revealed. The project presented a teaser, a new visual key and
confirmed that its premiere will be in 2026.
Cast and
staff confirmed
Among the
most notable surprises is the announcement of the main cast: Saori
Hayami will voice the protagonist Yuzu Shinonome,
while Yūichirō Umehara will play Reiya Kiryuin.
The direction will be in charge of Kazuhito Ōmiya at the
Colored Pencil Animation Japan studio. Yumi Kamakura will
oversee the composition of the series, Hikari Tanaka will
design the characters, and Masaru Yokoyama will compose the
music.
A
literary phenomenon turned into anime
The
universe of Oni no Hanayome was born in 2019 within the Novema! platform
of Starts Publishing, where it won the grand prize at the First Novema!
Character Short Story Contest. With illustrations by Yū Shiroya,
the work already has six volumes published, the most recent in
January 2025.
In
addition, the story gave rise to a manga adaptation by Jun Togashi,
published in Noicomi magazine since 2021. The manga has won
first place in Noicomi's women's comics category for two consecutive years
(2022 and 2023) and already has seven compilation volumes.
A
success that continues to grow
Together,
the series of novels and its manga adaptation exceed 5.8 million copies
in circulation, consolidating itself as a phenomenon within the
supernatural romantic genre. With this animated adaptation, Oni no
Hanayome aims to expand its international reach and become one of the
most anticipated releases of 2026.
