Screenwriter
Mikoto Yamaguchi,
recognized by Tomodachi Game, and artist Yūhei Ogino,
author of Dopeman, have joined forces to launch a new manga
titled Tensei Kaku Gamer Oji demo Kateru Isekai Kōryaku, also known
as Reincarnated Fighting Gamer. The work debuted on August
22 on Shueisha's Tonari no Young Jump platform.
History
of video games and second chances
The plot
follows Kairu Mitsushima, a middle-aged man with an innate talent
for fighting video games since his teenage years. Three decades ago, her life
changed when she met Daigo Umehara, a living legend of the genre.
However, after a traffic accident, Kairu wakes up in an alternate world where
combat is resolved through the knowledge and techniques of fighting games.
The
legacy of Tomodachi Game
Tomodachi
Game, based on
Yamaguchi's original idea and drawn by Yuki Satō, began
serialization in Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in
December 2013 and concluded in August 2024. Its popularity
led to an anime adaptation, released on NTV in
April 2022, broadcast on Crunchyroll in both the original version and in
English dub. In addition, the franchise inspired a live-action series in
2017, two films in the same year, and a new live-action television project in
July 2022.
Ogino's
journey with Dopeman
For his
part, Ogino worked alongside Ryō Yoshigami on the Dopeman manga,
which began publication on Shinchosha's Kurage Bunch website
in March 2022. The publisher released its third volume in June 2023. The manga
also reached international audiences: Comikey began publishing
it digitally in English in November 2022, while Titan Manga published
the first physical volume on March 18.
A
promising launch
The union
of Yamaguchi and Ogino to create Reincarnated Fighting Gamer has
aroused great expectation among manga and video game fans. The proposal mixes
the isekai genre with the passion for fighting games, offering
a fresh and reference-laden combination that is sure to appeal to both manga
readers and fighting game fans.
