Chainsaw Man: Reze leads the Japanese box office for the fifth week

The movie Chainsaw Man: The Movie – Reze Arc it remained in first place at the Japanese box office during the weekend of October 17 to 19, reaching his fifth consecutive week as leader in the national ranking.


According to data from Kogyo Tsushinsha, the tape attracted 375,000 spectators and collected 582 million yen (approximately 3.86 million dollars) during the weekend, exceeding a cumulative total of 4.26 million tickets sold and 6.5 billion yen (some 43.1 million dollars) in income.


In second place was the live-action adaptation of 5 Centimeters per Second of Makoto Shinkai, which brought together 198,000 attendees and obtained 283 million yen (approximately 1.88 million dollars).

About Chainsaw Man


Based on the original manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since December 2018, Chainsaw Man tells the story of Denji, a young demon hunter who lives in poverty while trying to pay his late father's debts. After merging with his partner Pochita, Denji is reborn as the half demon known as Chainsaw Man and he enters a world dominated by violence and despair.


The manga has more than 30 million copies in circulation and he was recognized as the number one in the men's category of Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2021. Its first part, the “Public Security Arc”, concluded in December 2020, while the second part began in Shonen Jump+ in July 2022. The anime adaptation aired between October and December 2022 and has also inspired a play.


About the movie


Chainsaw Man: The Movie – Reze Arc it adapts the post-events arc of the anime, focusing on the meeting between Denji and Reze, a mysterious girl who completely alters his life. The film continues to expand the main narrative with new elements from Fujimoto's manga.
