Nostalgia hits hard with the return of one of the most beloved romantic comedies of the 2000s. The production company Genco, Inc has officially launched a crowdfunding campaign (crowdfunding) on the website Motion Gallery. The goal is to raise funds to produce a new animation video from the franchise Onegai Teacher!, described in the ad as a "reboot" of the "Onegai" series.

The campaign seeks to raise money 25 million yen (approximately US$160,000) and will be open until March 28, 2026. The production plan indicates that work will begin in December of this year, with a projected completion date for April or May 2026.

Once completed, the video will have limited screenings on Tokio and in the area of Lake Kizaki in Nagano, the iconic location that served as the setting for the original animes. Additionally, a physical launch is planned in Blu-ray Disc produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks.

Return of the original staff

Much to the delight of veteran fans, the original creative team is back to ensure the fidelity of the project. Yasunori Ide, who directed so much Please Teacher! as Please Twins, returns to direct this new video in the Studio M2.

The original character design is once again in the hands of Taraku Uon, while the background art will be handled by Kusanagi. Besides Atsuko Nakajima, key animator on the original series, will draw a special illustration for the project.

About the franchise

Please Teacher! it debuted in 2001, followed by Please Twins in 2003, both focused on high school romances with Lake Kizaki as a backdrop. The series also inspired a spiritual successor in 2012, Waiting in the Summer (Ano Natsu de Matteru), consolidating his legacy in the romance and science fiction genre.
