What many feared has begun to happen on one of the largest platforms in the world. Prime Video it is currently in the eye of the storm after it was discovered that it is using AI (Artificial Intelligence) to dub anime series. The victim of this experiment has been Banana Fish- a much-loved work that fans had been waiting to see dubbed for years, but which has now received treatment that has outraged both the audience and voice professionals.
It didn't take in-depth research to detect it. The platform itself supports it in its menus: when selecting the language for Banana Fish, options appear clearly labeled as "English (AI Beta)" and "Spanish (Latin America) (AI Beta)". This confirms that Amazon it is actively testing this technology to replace human actors, delivering a product that many describe as robotic, soulless and with an inconsistent cadence.
"A garbage generated by AI"
The reaction was immediate. The renowned voice actor Daman Mills (voice of Monaka in Dragon Ball Super and known for Genshin Impact) exploded against the company. "You should be ashamed, Amazon and Prime Video. After fans have waited years, do they give them this garbage generated by AI? "It's incredibly disrespectful", the actor declared.
Mills he pointed out the irony and unethicality of delivering a machine to perform a queer drama as complex as Banana Fish just because "paying real actors was too difficult" for a company with unlimited resources. The actor threatened not to work with them again if they do not solve this "absolute disaster".
