The Japanese publishing industry reports the loss of one of its contemporary authors. The department of the Weekly Shonen Magazine of the Kodansha publishing house has issued an official statement to confirm the death of mangaka Majuro Kaname. According to the report, the death occurred during the month of February, keeping information about his age and exact medical causes confidential.

By decision of his inner circle, the funeral services were carried out in a strictly private manner, with only the presence of his closest relatives before the information was made public to the media and readers

At the time of his death, the writer was preparing drafts for the fourteenth chapter of his manga on air, Doku or Kurawaba Sakura Made. This story was in publication since October of last year through the digital portal Getsu Maga Kichi, with the art work of illustrator Takahiro Obata.

After a series of meetings between the editorial department, the illustrator in charge and Kaname's relatives, the final decision was made to conclude the serialization of the work in its chapter 13. All material completed to date will be collected and distributed in a second and final printed volume.

Notable works

Kaname's creative register encompassed the development of stories that combined suspense with interpersonal dynamics:

  • Can You Just Die, My Darling?
Story created in collaboration with artist Soso Sakakibara, published between 2015 and 2021.

About his work

Kaname's most recognized work in the manga industry was Can You Just Die, My Darling? (Konya wa Tsuki ga Kirei desu ga, Toriaezu Shine). The main plot of this psychological thriller and school romance follows a young student who, suddenly and inexplicably, develops a dangerous and uncontrollable murderous impulse aimed specifically at the girl he is deeply in love with.

This particular premise of suspense allowed the work to remain in serialization uninterruptedly for six years, managing to accumulate a total of ten compilation volumes in the Japanese market before its official conclusion in January 2021
