The weight
of the family's magical lineage and the responsibilities of the modern world
converge on the big screen. The first promotional image and video trailer for
the film adaptation of the visual novel Witch on the Holy Night (Mahoutsukai
no Yoru) has been officially revealed, which is scheduled to be released in
theaters later this year.
The update
shared by the production committee shows the protagonist, Aoko Aozaki,
standing in the center of an imposing magic circle with a serious expression,
accompanied by the tagline: "A magician living in the modern era. Still in
training." At the same time, the brief trailer released shows the activation
of this mystical seal wrapped in a bright blue light, offering a first look at
the animation style that will characterize the film.
Witch on
the Holy Night Details
The
animation production falls entirely on the facilities of the renowned ufotable studio.
As it is a first promotional approach, the team keeps the names of the voice
actors and specific members of the technical staff confidential, limiting the
information to the protagonists who will lead the plot.
About
the work
The story
is set in the late 1980s and follows Aoko Aozaki, a young woman who comes from
a long line of modern-era sorcerers. Despite her lack of interest in practicing
the mystic arts, her family chooses her as the next leader of the lineage. To
prepare, she moves to an old mansion on the hill to train under the strict
tutelage of Alice Kuonji, all while trying to maintain the appearances of her
normal life as student council president.
The
complexity of her double life increases with the arrival of Sojuro Shizuki at
the institute and with the machinations of her older sister, Toko Aozaki, who
believes that the family magic belonged to her by right. The original visual
novel was created by the prestigious Type-Moon circle and
released in 2012, quickly consolidating itself in the industry thanks to its
mix of school life, mystery and a deep magical system that will now make the
leap to theaters.
