Falling in love in high school is complicated enough, but literally transforming into a giant monster when your love interest listens to you is taking things to another level. For those who wanted something fresh that breaks the usual tropes, the production committee shared the details: the anime adaptation of Kaiju Girl Caramelise (Otome Kaiju Carameliser) will officially debut in July 2026.

The news landed with a first trailer and a promotional poster that show how this story will send the clichés of school romance to the well. If you thought romantic comedies were stagnant, this trailer promises a dose of destruction that's 100% canon.

Kaiju Girl Caramelise Details

The heavy work of the animation is in the hands of the facilities of LIDEN FILMS, in collaboration with GOOD SMILE FILM in the general production. To ensure that this little gem is impeccable, the direction falls to Teruyuki OmineYuniko Ayana is in charge of structuring the scripts for the series, while Mitomi Nakayama adapts the character designs to the screen.

About the work

The plot follows Kuroe Akaishi, a girl who has lived isolated from the world due to a "mysterious illness" and her total social ineptitude. However, her life takes a critical turn when she ends up falling in love with Arata Minami, the most coveted guy in her class. The instant Kuroe accepts her feelings, the latent condition within her awakens, literally transforming her into a Kaiju. The story is a based approach that mixes the tension between teenage love and reason, completely crushing the classic conventions of shoujo manga.

The original manga, written and illustrated by mangaka Spica Aoki, began serialization in Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Alive magazine in 2018. Currently, the franchise already has more than 230,000 copies in circulation and its ninth compilation volume hit stores last December, proving that sometimes the public just wants to see a romance where someone has to ask for a corner because of the collateral damage in the city.
