Surviving
in the Bakumatsu era without memories and being rescued by Okita Soji himself
sounds like the plot of a good shonen, but this time we are facing
an original gem. For fans who were crying out for a new samurai
story, the production committee dropped the facts: the anime Inherit
the Winds (Kaze wo Tsugumono) is set for release in
January 2027.
The update
came along with a first video trailer confirming the series' airing within the
"Agaru Anime" programming block across TBS, CBC,
and 26 other affiliated stations in Japan. In addition, the clip let us hear
the level of voice talent that will give life to the historic wolves of Mibu.
Inherit
the Winds Details
The
animation work falls on a rather particular collaboration between Live2D
Creative Studio and Drive Inc. facilities. The
general direction of the project is in charge of Tomohiro Kawamura,
with Yutaka Narui in charge of writing the scripts, Fumi
Ebina adapting the character designs and Shigeru Kishida composing
the soundtrack.
About
the work
The story
throws us straight into the streets of Kyoto during the bloody last years of
the shogunate. A soldier completely loses his memory, but manages to save
himself after crossing paths with Okita Soji. The swordsman decides to call him
"Tachikawa Jinsuke" and introduces him to the core of the
Shinsengumi. From there, the protagonist must live with murderers, discover who
he really was and avoid being liquidated in the midst of constant political
changes.
Being an
original project conceived by Yutaka Narui and the production
company Aniplex (with the creative support of Azuki
Mashiba), there is no previous source material that fills us with spoilers.
However, the franchise is already preparing the ground to expand: in 2026,
artist Matsuri Muramatsu will release a manga adaptation
in yonkoma format (four panels) directly on X's account
(formerly Twitter) on the Twi4 platform.
