The leap
into the competitive field of esports finally has a date marked on the
calendar. Following the original announcement of its production last year, it
has been officially confirmed that the third season of the anime adaptation
of Shangri-La Frontier will begin airing on Japanese
television during the month of January 2027.
The update
was accompanied by the release of a new promotional image focused on the Galaxia
Heroes: Chaos (GGC) tournament arc. Along with the animated sequel,
the production committee expanded the scope of the franchise by
announcing Shangri-La Frontier: The Seven Colossi, the brand's
first official video game, which presented its initial trailer and set its
global release for 2026.
Shangri-La
Frontier Details
The new
visual art of the animated series anticipates the tension of the upcoming
confrontation. In the illustration, Rakuro is seen illuminated
by the light that filters from his iconic pumpkin helmet, posing next to his
avatar Sunraku. Behind them, the presence of three mysterious large
figures with glowing eyes sets the menacing tone of the new narrative stage.
Projects
in development
The
franchise will maintain an active calendar over the next few years through
different entertainment media:
- Shangri-La Frontier: The Seven
Colossi
First interactive title in the franchise, developed by the Netmarble Nexus studio and scheduled to debut in 2026. - Third season of the anime
Sequel for television that will cover the beginning of the GGC tournament, picking up the story directly after the closure of the second season. Premiere in January 2027.
About
the new arch and the work
The plot of
the next episodes will temporarily leave aside the exploration of the fantasy
world to enter the field of professional e-sports with the GGC fighting game
tournament. The story will focus on the high-profile clash between the American
team STAR RAIN and the Japanese squad Nitro Squad.
In order to participate without revealing his identity as a Shangri-La
Frontier player, Rakuro will be forced to wear a peculiar disguise in
the real world.
The franchise was born as a web novel written by Katarina, beginning its publication on the Shosetsuka ni Naro portal in May 2017. The story achieved massive international success thanks to its manga adaptation, illustrated by Fuji and serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine since July 2020. Currently, the print version has surpassed the 16 million copies mark in circulation.
