The legacy
of Japanese science fiction's most iconic cybernetic soldiers continues to
expand. It has been officially announced that the new animated project Cyborg
009: Nemesis will begin distribution through streaming platforms
during this year's summer season.
The update
was accompanied by a new visual image and details about the sound section of
the series. The production committee confirmed that the main theme song will be
"Taga Tame ni," performed by Kyoko, vocalist of the band
Barbee Boys. This song is a direct tribute to the franchise, as it was the
original theme used in the 1979 television adaptation, whose lyrics were
written by the creator of the work himself.

About
the franchise
The main
plot of the franchise follows Black Ghost, a clandestine global organization
whose goal is to plunge the world into a state of eternal war. To achieve this,
they kidnap nine people from different backgrounds and transform them into
cybernetic soldiers. However, the cyborgs rebel against their creators and
decide to use their newfound abilities to dismantle the organization and
protect humanity.
The
original work, written and illustrated by legendary mangaka Shotaro
Ishinomori, began publication in the pages of Shonengahosha's Weekly
King magazine in July 1964. Over the decades, the manga has inspired
multiple television adaptations in 1968, 1979, and 2001, in addition to various
films, OVAs, and print spin-offs, the most recent being the manga
Cyborg 009: Ghost of the Pacific, released in April 2024.
