After years
of waiting and an old film project that was left in the inkwell, lovers of
mystery and literature finally have a reason to celebrate. This Wednesday,
April 22, the Kadokawa publishing house made it official
that the successful series of mystery novels written by En
Mikami, The Case Files of Biblia Bookstore (Biblia Koshodo no Jiken
Techo), will receive an animated adaptation for
television. The announcement was accompanied by a teaser and the first
promotional images and confirmed that the series will hit screens in 2027,
under the impeccable production of the CloverWorks studio.
The
voices and talent behind the counter
To convey
the calm yet intriguing atmosphere of the work, the production committee has
assembled a top-notch creative team. Director Mamoru Kanbe (The
Perfect Insider, Sound of the Sky) will take the reins of the
project, backed by scripts by Toshiya Ono and character designs by Jun Nakai.
As for the voices that will give life to the unique booksellers, the
announcement revealed the two main pillars:
- Riko
Akechi as Shioriko Shinokawa
The
actress will lend her voice to the introverted but brilliant owner of the
bookstore.
- Shunsuke
Takeuchi as Daisuke Gora
The
renowned seiyuu (Brawler in Akudama Drive, Einar in Vinland
Saga) will play the burly assistant who can't read without getting dizzy.
A
literary legacy with previous adaptations
The
franchise has an enviable track record since it published its first volume in
2011 with illustrations by Hagu Koshijima. With more than 6.4 million copies
sold and multiple nominations for literary mystery awards in Japan, the story
of Biblia has already tried its luck on the small screen with a successful
11-episode live-action drama in 2013 and a film in 2018. Although in 2017 an
animated film was promised that never saw the light of day, this new television
project marks the true triumphant entry of the saga into the world of anime,
also supported by three successful manga adaptations.
What
secrets does this quaint bookstore in Kamakura hide?
Far from
bloody crimes, this story takes us to a quiet corner of Kamakura.
There is the old "Bible" bookstore, managed by Shioriko Shinokawa, an
extremely shy young woman who has an encyclopedic knowledge of old
books. His life takes a turn when he hires Daisuke Gora as his protector
and physical assistant, a boy who suffers from a strange condition that causes
him severe dizziness every time he tries to read a book.
Together
they form an unlikely duo dedicated to solving gentle but profound mysteries.
Through customers bringing old tomes into the store, Shioriko uses the clues
left on the pages, dedications, and bindings to unravel the hidden stories of
their previous owners, revealing surprising truths that go far beyond a simple
business transaction.
