If you've ever dreamed of leaving the stress of the office to live a quiet life with broken powers in another world, this news is for you. This Wednesday, April 22the Kadokawa publishing house officially confirmed that the successful light novel written by Yasukiyo KotobukiThe Diary of a Middle-Aged Sage's Carefree Life in Another World (Arafo Kenja no Isekai Seikatsu Nikki), will receive its long-awaited animated adaptation for television. The announcement was accompanied by a first promotional image and the confirmation of the main team that will bring this project to life at the YANCHESTER studio.

The veteran team in charge of the animation

Since a release window and voice cast have not yet been revealed, the production committee decided to focus attention on technical talent. The project was left in the hands of creatives with vast experience in handling comedies, fantasy scenarios and relaxed narrative rhythms. Here are the staff leaders:

  • Takayuki Inagaki as CEO.

Known for his work directing the iconic supernatural comedy Rosario + Vampire.

  • Hiroko Kanasugi in charge of the composition of the series.

Expert in spinning the slow pace after scripting the adaptation of Drug Store in Another World - The Slow Life of a Cheat Pharmacist.

  • Mariko Fujita as a character designer.

Responsible for the memorable and stylized designs in the Galaxy Angel franchise.

From Shosetsuka ni Naro to an expanding universe

The rise of this isekai franchise is a true example of consistency in the industry. Its story began in 2016 as a simple web novel on the popular site Shosetsuka ni Naro. Since then, it has not stopped growing. Volume 20 of the print novel was released in February, and volume 21 will hit stores this Friday, April 24.

In addition to its two regular manga adaptations (drawn by artists Maneki and 888 on the Manga UP! and ComicWalker platforms respectively), the saga added a prequel spin-off manga titled Zero Sword and Sorceress World last December. This work, illustrated by Piyoko Hatori, explores the protagonist's early years, demonstrating the audience's strong interest in continuing to expand this universe.

What is the new life of the wise Zelos Merlin about?

The story introduces us to a middle-aged office worker whose monotonous and exhausting reality changes radically when he is transported to a new fantasy world. However, he does not arrive at this place empty-handed or as a rookie: he is reincarnated living the life of the almighty Zelos Merlin, the same hyper-broken avatar he used in his favorite video game.

Instead of looking for epic conflicts, enlisting in the royal army, or trying to save the world from a Demon King, our protagonist takes a very different route. He decides to harness his immense magical powers to secure something he never had in the real world: a completely free, relaxed, and carefree existence in an unknown world.
