If you
thought the golden age of tactical and realistic mechas was buried in the past,
hold on to your chair. To celebrate its 50th anniversary in style, the Sunrise studio
has just dropped a nostalgia bombshell: the first official trailer for Armored
Trooper Votoms: Die Graue Hexe. This new project will be a cinematic feast
divided into two parts, confirming that the first film will land with its full
arsenal in Japanese theaters on November 20.
A
titanic alliance to revive a classic
When you
put two industry monsters together, the result has to be historic. This
installment is being co-produced by Sunrise and Production
I.G, but the real jewel in the crown is that the direction is in charge
of Mamoru Oshii. Yes, we're talking about the very visionary genius
behind timeless masterpieces like Ghost in the Shell and Patlabor.
Knowing that Oshii loves to mix the visceral rawness of war with deep
narratives, the community's expectations for this installment are already
breaking the ceiling.
The
return of the old irons and the real war
For the
younger otaku band, the franchise was born in 1983 and earned the absolute
respect of the community for not beating around the bush. Here you won't see
teenagers screaming the name of their magical powers to save their waifu;
This is pure tactical survival, hardened soldiers, and robots that are
essentially tanks with legs. The new trailer for Die Graue Hexe made
it clear to us that that gloomy essence is still intact, but now backed up with
a next-gen visual quality that promises to squeeze the most out of each
mechanical combat.
Synopsis
of Armored Trooper Votoms
The
original saga transports us to the unforgiving Astragius Galaxy, a fractured
universe consumed by a star-scale war that seems to have no end. The story
followed the heartbreaking footsteps of Chirico Cuvie, an ordinary soldier who
navigates the hell of combat trying to survive military betrayals and ruthless
conflicts. Notable for its hyper-realistic approach to mecha combat, the work
moves away from cheap heroism to focus on the traumas and tactical struggles of
foot soldiers caught up in political machinations much larger than themselves.
