Twelve
years after its main story closed its doors, one of the community's most
chaotic and beloved parodic comedies is back. Author Minari Endo confirmed
on August 25, 2026 that her famous work Maria Holic will have
a new sequel manga titled Maria Holic: Sono Ato no 12-kagetsu no
Ohanashi, which will begin its official publication on August 27 in the
October issue of Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Alive magazine.
This new
installment will continue the crazy experiences of the protagonists exactly one
year after the final events of the original work, which was published between
2006 and 2014 compiling a total of fourteen volumes. To accompany the
announcement, the creator shared a previously unpublished illustration showing
Mariya Shido and her sarcastic maid Matsurika Shinoji with a revamped design,
accompanied by a miniature version of Kanako Miyamae suffering her classic
emotional breakdowns.
The story
follows Kanako, a high school student who suffers from androphorbia and suffers
severe hives just thinking about having physical contact with men. In his
search for the perfect lesbian romance, he moves to the exclusive Catholic
boarding school for girls Ame no Kisaki, where he meets the beautiful Mariya
Shido. To her dismay, the supposed ideal girl turns out to be a sadistic boy in
disguise who blackmails her to keep his secret while becoming her roommate,
unleashing a shower of yuri parodies and exaggerated nosebleeds.
This
formula became a real cult jewel within the anime
industry thanks to the adaptation produced by the renowned Shaft studio.
Under the masterful direction of Akiyuki Shinbo and Yukihiro
Miyamoto, the first season premiered in 2009, followed by a second season in
2011 under the title Maria†Holic: Alive, becoming an absolute
benchmark of absurd humor of the time.
Created by
Minari Endo (who also concluded her extensive play Hatenko Yugi in
2022), Maria Holic stood out for breaking with the clichés of
school romance by presenting a satire full of physical comedy, eccentric
characters and psychological dynamics between its protagonists. Its return
after more than a decade marks a milestone for fans who had hoped to see the
chaotic Ame no Kisaki boarding school again.
