If you ever thought your love life was a complete mess, wait until you see the protagonists of this new franchise. The publisher Kadokawa has just surprised us by releasing the first video trailer of Ms. Isshiki Wants to Know About Love (Isshiki-san wa Koi o Shiritai). This promising animated project confirms that romantic comedies will continue to dominate the billboards, setting their grand premiere for the competitive winter season in January 2027.

The story follows Isshiki Rinna Milford, an elite police officer, supremely strict and professional, who managed to join the security forces at the incredible age of 17. However, despite his brilliant intellect and impeccable work record, he has never experienced the slightest trace of romantic love in his life. His path crosses with that of Meishi Rokutanda, a kind-hearted detective but incredibly clueless and incompetent at his job. Realizing that they are both complete newbies in matters of the heart, they decide to form an odd kind of trial couple to learn, stumble upon and discover together what romance really means, all while trying to survive the demanding world of criminal investigation.

To bring to life these two officers who are excellent at catching criminals but lousy at picking up hints, the Sakura Create studio already has its main talents in the recording booth. The confirmed lineup for this peculiar duo is as follows:

  • Riko Akechi as Isshiki Rinna Milford
A rising voice actress who will take on the challenge of playing our elite officer inexperienced in romance.
  • Shuichiro Umeda as Meishi Rokutanda
The beloved Akira Tendo himself in Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead and Izumi Broca in Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie.

Behind the scenes, the project has the backing of director Kazuya Komai (who has already worked on classics such as Tenjho Tenge), while the real guarantee comes with Deko Akao overseeing the scripts. Considering that she was responsible for adapting the wonderful interactions in Komi Can't Communicate and Noragami, we can be sure that the development of this strange relationship will be very well taken care of. In addition, the character designs are by Shohei Hamaguchi, ensuring that the contrast between the protagonist's straightness and her partner's clumsiness shines on screen.
