The trope of the unjustly banished character
who ends up proving to be indispensable has a new exponent ready for the small
screen. The popular light novel series The Exiled Merchant Saves the
World with the Power of Gold (Tsuihou Sareta Shounin wa Kin no Chikara
de Sekai wo Sukuu), written by Daken and illustrated
by Kasane Bench, officially confirmed its animated
adaptation. To celebrate the announcement, the production committee revealed
a series of promotional images that show us for the first time the designs of
its protagonist and the group of adventurers who will accompany him on this
peculiar journey.
The story begins with Torao, a skilled merchant
who was part of the influential S-rank group known as the Blue Ring. Although
Torao always insisted on saving every penny, his companions discover that he
used the guild's shared funds to sponsor Garnet, a modest group of rookie
adventurers. Furious at what they consider a betrayal, the members of the Blue
Ring decide to expel him from the team. Before leaving, Torao warns them that
it is still too early to challenge the Demon King; however, the arrogant group
ignores his words, throws himself into battle, and ends up completely
annihilated.
Defeating evil with a wallet
After the tragic but predictable end of his
former companions, Torao formally joins the Garnet group, made up of the
warrior leader Rio, the priestess Lilith, and the mage Dominic. Their first
mission together turns out to be quite gloomy: to recover the valuable
equipment from the Blue Ring corpses to resell it and capitalize on it. From
that moment on, the newly formed team sets out to defeat the Demon King using
Torao's vast economic resources and business skills, proving that in a fantasy
world money and business can be much more lethal weapons than magic or swords.
This peculiar story was originally born in 2023
as a web novel before being collected in physical format by the publisher in
early 2024, having also released its own manga adaptation. Although the
production has not yet revealed the exact release date or the studio in charge
of the animation, the premise has already caught the attention of the community for
its fun accounting approach. Knowing that banished anime abound in every season
