Offering marriage to the hitman they sent to liquidate you seems like the worst survival strategy in the world, unless your desperation knows no bounds. The animated adaptation of Firefly Wedding (Hotaru no Yomeiri) released a new promotional video to confirm that its long-awaited premiere will hit screens on October 9, offering a glimpse into this peculiar period romance tinged with obsession and danger.

The video trailer served to show the first chords of the opening theme titled "Period", performed by the singer iri, who debuts for the first time in the animation industry with this musical piece. The singer-songwriter commented that she was deeply moved by the determination of the protagonist to stand firm in the face of an overwhelming reality, while the author of the manga, Oreko Tachibana, assured that the song manages to convey an unbreakable will that makes the emotions of the characters come to life. For its part, the group TOOBOE will be in charge of the closing theme with the song "Yumegokochi".

As for the main voice cast, actress Lynn will play the young Satoko Kirigaya, while Koki Uchiyama will play the dangerous assassin Shinpei Goto. They are joined by Kent Ito in the role of Kotaro Ogawa and Kenjiro Tsuda as Mitsueda. The animation production is carried out by the production house David Production under the general direction of Takahiro Kamei, with Yukiko Aikei in charge of the character designs, Yuko Kakihara in the supervision and writing of the scripts, and the NOGRID group in the composition of the soundtrack.

About Firefly Wedding

Written and illustrated by Oreko Tachibana, the original manga began publication on Shogakukan's Manga ONE app in January 2023. The story takes us back to the Meiji era to introduce Satoko, a beautiful daughter of nobles who apparently has everything, but who suffers from a serious illness that gives her very little time to live. When her plans to get an advantageous marriage for her family are threatened by Shinpei, a mysterious hitman sent to kill her, the young woman makes a desperate decision to save herself: to propose marriage to her own aggressor. However, she did not count on this dangerous guy taking the promise of "until death do us part" in the most literal and intense way possible.
