The official site for the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise announced that the release of the Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0 movie (Shin Evangelion Gekijouban: ||) will be delayed indefinitely.

The decision was made by the production team according to the government's instructions to combat the Coronavirus outbreak in the country. The film was scheduled to be released on June 27 in Japan, and the staff will announce the new release date as soon as decided.

Additionally, the official site released a new promotional image, also revealing the official English name as Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0: Thrice Upon A Time.

Studio Khara already released the first 10 minutes and 40 seconds of the feature film last July. The “Japan Expo” event in Paris broadcast this same excerpt during a presentation titled “Yoko Takahashi x Evangelion”. Subsequently, this excerpt was featured at the “Anime Expo” event in Los Angeles, following an Evangelion broadcast: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, and in Shangha during a franchise event.

In March 2019, Studio Khara stated that voice recordings for the film had started and voice actress Megumi Ogata confirmed in February that they had already ended.

The film is the latest installment of the Shin Evangelion tetralogy, the first three of which were released in 2007, 2009 and 2012, respectively. Netflix recently acquired the distribution license for the original series Neon Genesis Evangelion and added both anime and movies Shin Seiki Evangelion Gekijōban: Death & Rebirth - Shi to Shinsei and Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion in June.
