Masaaki Yuasa leaves his position as president of Science SARU studies

The renowned director Masaaki Yuasa announced through his Twitter account that he has retired from his position as president of the animation studio Science SARU, since last March 25. Yuasa commented that, while resting, he will prepare himself for what life has in store for him.


Yuasa co-founded the Science SARU studio with Eunyoung Choi in 2013. The duo debuted with the animated short “Food Chain” for the Adventure Time series. The director is credited in productions such as Devilman Crybaby, Kimi to, Nami ni Noretara, Ping Pong: The Animation, and Yojou-Han Shinwa Taikei.

Yuasa currently directed the anime adaptation of the Sakyo Komatsu novels, Japan Sinks (Nihon Chinbotsu) which will be released on Netflix in 2020. Also, the director was in charge of the anime adaptation of the Sumito Owara manga, Eizouken ni wa Te wo dasu na!
