Studio Ghibli announced the production of a 3D CG animated feature film adaptation of the book written by Diana Wynne Jones, Aya to Majo, which is slated for release this winter on the NHK General channel.

Suzuki commented on the new movie by reflecting on what the world will be like after the COVID-19 pandemic. He added that this is the biggest concern for people around the world right now, and that movies and television can't help but deal with this. When some of the first images in the film were shown, she often pointed out that the strength of this story is the protagonist's intelligence. Furthermore, Jones published this novel in 2011.

The direction is the responsibility of Hayao Miyazaki's son, Goro Miyazaki, and this will be the first 3D CG animated film in the studio's history. Additionally, Hayao Miyazaki is credited for planning and development, while Studio Ghibli co-founder Toshio Suzuki is credited for production.

Synopsis of Aya to Majo

Not all orphans love living in the St. Morwald orphanage, but Earwig does. She gets everything she wants, when she wants it, and it's been that way ever since she came to the orphanage as an abandoned baby. But all this changes when Bella Yaga and Mandrake arrive at St. Morwald disguised as adoptive parents. Earwig is brought to her house filled with mysterious rooms, potions, and sorcery books.

Most of the children would have fled in terror from a house like this ... but this is not the case again with Earwig who, using his own intelligence and with the help of a talking cat, will decide to show the witch who is boss there.
