In December 2019, Lai Pin-yu politics resonated with networks around the world during her political campaign for a seat in the Legislative Yuan in Taiwan by the Democratic Progressive Party. Pin-yu stood out during her political campaign because in several of her public appearances she was presented doing a cosplay of the character Asuka Langley Soryu from the Neon Genesis Evangelion series

In fact, this was not the first time that he had performed cosplaying a character at any political rally, and it probably won't be the last. Politics has also cosplayed Neon Genesis Evangelion's Rei Ayanami, Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon's Sailor Mars, and other characters. In fact, one of her propaganda posters was starring this last character.

Back then, Pin-yu was running for a seat in the New Taipei 12th district legislature, with Lee Yong-ping as an opponent, a member of the China Nationalist Party.

It would not be until January 11, the day the elections were held, that the world would learn that, in fact, Pin-yu did win the elections by the legislature, with a difference in votes of only 2,780 (from a total of 84,393). In her final comment upon learning of her victory, she commented: “Hello friends, I am Lai Pin-yu, and I will be the legislator for the 12th district of New Taipei. Please look forward to your support for the next four years. ”
