During the panel “VIZ: A Haunting Conversation with Junji Ito” at the Comic Con @ Home virtual event, the author of horror manga, Junji Ito commented that director Hideo Kojima invited him to participate in the development of a horror game. In response to his comment, Ito quickly pointed out that he is currently not working on any video game project, and has come to nothing with conversations with Kojima.

When asked, "Are you involved in developing a video game right now?" Ito replied, "The simple answer is no. However, I do know director Kojima, and we have previously discussed that he may be developing a horror video game. So he invited me to participate in it, but there are no more details yet. "

Before the release of the Death Stranding game and Hideo Kojima's departure from Konami, the company was planning to develop the Silent Hills video game in 2014, with Kojima as the director and Norman Reedus playing the lead. Director Guillermo del Toro and author Junji Ito were also involved in this project. However, Konami confirmed in April 2015 that it had canceled the project.

Finally, Kojima stated in September 2019 that he was already preparing for his "next project". Reedus also stated in March of this year that he is in talks to "do something new" with Kojima, after the success of Death Stranding.
