The official website of the Kaiju No. 8 anime released on Thursday a new main trailer titled "Ishi no Keisho" ("Succession of the Will") for its long-awaited second season, which will premiere on July 19, 2025 in Japan (equivalent to 17:00 on July 19 in Spain, UTC+2).

The trailer stands out for including the new closing track entitled "Beautiful Colors", performed by the American band OneRepublic. This will be the band's third collaboration with the franchise, following their participation in the first season with "Nobody" and the special episode "Hoshina's Day Off" with "Invincible."

OneRepublic sends an emotional message to fans

In a message addressed to fans of the anime, OneRepublic shared:

"I sincerely hope that you love this song as much as you loved 'Nobody.' It's a totally different theme, but it contains the same emotional charge that we wanted to convey this season. We want people to feel something deep. If we danced to 'Nobody' before, now maybe we can cry together with 'Beautiful Colors.'"

Kotono Mitsuishi joins the cast as a key character

The trailer also confirms the participation of the legendary seiyuu Kotono Mitsuishi (Usagi Tsukino in Sailor MoonMisato Katsuragi in Evangelion), who will play Hikari Shinomiya, Kikoru's late mother.

About his character, Mitsuishi commented:

"Hikari was an admirable woman as a defense officer, but also a loving and dedicated mother. I thought of her as someone who would have lived happily if the world wasn't full of kaijus. I deeply enjoyed every moment he shares with Kikoru, Isao and his colleagues. I feel that her emotions live in her husband and daughter."

Production details and synopsis of the series

The first season of Kaiju No. 8 premiered in spring 2024, under the direction of Shigeyuki Miya and Tomomi Kamiya at the Production I.G. studio. The script was overseen by Ichiro Okouchi (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury), while Tetsuya Nishio (Naruto) was in charge of character design and Yuta Bando (BELLE) of the soundtrack. The original manga is the work of Naoya Matsumoto.

Crunchyroll is currently broadcasting the first season with subtitles and Spanish dubbing. The official synopsis reads:

In a world besieged by creatures known as Kaiju, Kafka Hibino dreams of joining the Defense Force, prompted by a promise made to his childhood friend, Mina Ashiro. However, life separates them. While working to clean up the remains of Kaiju, Kafka meets Reno Ichikawa, whose desire to fight rekindles his determination to keep his promise, protect Mina, and save humanity.

With a mix of action, drama, and intense emotions, Kaiju No. 8 is shaping up to be one of the most powerful releases of summer 2025.
