Tokyo One Piece Tower park is permanently closed by the COVID-19 pandemic

The world's first indoor theme park dedicated to the franchise based on the manga written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece, and known as the "Tokyo One Piece Tower," closed its doors after five years of activities on 31 December. July. The park posted a special video saying goodbye to its fans and thanking everyone who ever visited it.


Tokyo One Piece Tower opened its doors on March 13, 2015, and was visited by fans of the One Piece franchise from around the world. However, the COVID-19 pandemic had a severe impact on the administration of the site, since a permanent closure had to be announced since July 4. In their statement they wrote: "We have determined that it will be very difficult to continue providing the services that satisfy your wishes with the same quality as before, the same with the quality of the facilities."

Additionally, the author Eiichiro Oda published the following message: “Who would have thought that such a thing would happen in the world? Living together is fun, but right now we can't do it. It is very sad, but five years is really a long time. They were five years full of memories for many fans. The actors on stage day by day, the many attractions, and the powerful attitude of the staff. I think it was a very pleasant and probably intimate time that all the members of this park spent in their five years. I am full of gratitude for all you have done for this series. Now you have become legends! And I am looking forward to seeing them again sometime, perhaps in a future reopening. Thank you very much!".

For its part, One Piece is a manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda and published in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine by the publisher Shueisha since July 1997. The franchise has inspired multiple adaptations to other media, the main one being the anime that It has been broadcast since October 1999 and has been produced by Toei Animation Studios ever since.

One Piece Synopsis

The story centers on Monkey D. Luffy, a young pirate who ventures into the East Blue Ocean to find the "One Piece", the most important hidden treasure for pirates, because whoever finds it will be proclaimed as the King of the Pirates.
