The AnimeJapan staff announced that the AnimeJapan 2021 event will take place between March 27 and 30, 2021, as a special event that will combine face-to-face and online attendance. The slogan of this new edition is presented as "Everything about anime is here".

The public days of the event will be held on March 27 and 28, 2021 at the Tokyo Big Sight, specifically in the west and south wings of the complex. During these public days there will be events for both in-person attendees and online attendees. The face-to-face part will feature exhibitions, sale of limited edition merchandise and 40 live performances between the two days. On the other hand, the virtual part will include the transmission of these live presentations, virtual exhibitions and the survey "Work that you would like to see animated".

Additionally, the staff confirmed that they will take preventive measures to avoid the spread of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) during the event. On the other hand, business days will be held online only on March 29 and 30, 2021. As in other editions, during these days buyers and licensors will be able to speak with the representatives of each of the animation productions about business. Trading days are only available online as seminars and presentations.

Finally, the auxiliary event “Family Anime Festa”, which includes productions focused on children and which has been carried out in the last edition of the event, will not be held in 2021. It is worth mentioning that AnimeJapan 2020 was scheduled to take place between 21 and March 24 of this year, but it was canceled due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan.
