Rumiko Takahashi will receive a medal from the government of Japan

The Japanese government announced today that author Rumiko Takahashi will receive this year's fall edition of the Purple Ribbon Medal. This medal is awarded to "individuals who have contributed to the development, improvement and achievements of the academic and artistic fields."



Since her debut in 1978, Takahashi has written and illustrated such manga as Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, Mermaid Saga, Takahashi Rumiko Gekijou, Ranma 1/2, Ichi Pound no Fukuin, and Inuyasha. In her career of more than four decades, many of her works have become internationally popular and have inspired anime adaptations.


Recently, Takahashi finalized the publication of the manga Kyoukai no Rinne, in December 2017 and that was published in the magazine Weekly Shonen Sunday of the Shogakukan publishing house. The manga's fortieth and final compiled volume was published in Japan in January 2018.


Subsequently, he began publishing a new manga titled MAO in May 2018 and his Inuyasha manga is currently inspiring an animated spin-off series titled Hanyou no Yashahime, which has been on air since last October 3 and is confirmed with a total of 24 episodes.
