In the most recent chapter of the manga written and illustrated by Kiri Wazawa, Fukigen na Mononokean (The Morose Mononokean), it was announced that the work will come to an end with the publication of its next chapter, scheduled for April 8 in Japan.
Wazawa began publishing the manga through Square Enix publisher's Gangan Online service in September 2013. The publisher published the 16th compiled volume in August 2020, followed by the 17th on February 12 in Japan.
The play also inspired a thirteen episode anime adaptation produced by Pierrot Plus studios, directed by Akira Iwanaga and scripts written by Takao Yoshioka, released in June 2016. A second season, also thirteen episodes but directed by Itsuro Kawasaki , premiered in March 2019.
Synopsis of Fukigen na Mononokean
Hanae Ashiya's start to high school life has not been easy: she has spent the entire first week in the infirmary and her inexplicable condition is only getting worse. The cause of her torment is the mysterious fuzzy creature that has clung to him since he ran into her the day before classes began.
As her health continues to deteriorate and the creature increases in size, Hanae comes across a flyer announcing an exorcist driving out the youkai. Desperate and with nothing to lose, she calls the number and is ushered into the Mononokean, a tea room that suddenly appears next to the infirmary. A grumpy-sounding man, Haruitsuki Abeno, reluctantly helps Hanae, but demands payment afterward. To Hanae's dismay, he is unable to pay the fee and must become an employee of the Mononokean to pay off his debt. And to make matters worse, his new boss is actually one of his classmates. If Hanae ever hopes to pay off his debt, he must work alongside Abeno to guide a variety of dangerous, strange, and interesting youkai back to the underworld.
