During the Aniplex Online Fest 2022 event , the production of an animated film adaptation of the light novels written by Gen Urobuchi and illustrated by Higashiguchi Chuuou , Eisen Flugel ( Wings of Steel ), was announced. The press release confirmed that production is being handled by A-1 Pictures studios.
Urobuchi shared a special message to celebrate the announcement, which he wrote:
- Once upon a time there was an eroge company called NITRO PLUS. The screenwriter submitted a proposal about a competition on a distant world between a dragon and a plane to determine which was the true superiority of the skies. The president of the company demanded that the writer transform his proposal into a one-hour anime project. So the screenwriter panicked and rushed to add more content to the proposal. But time passed and the project was never discussed again. In the end, he disappeared from memory.
- Some time later, the screenwriter, who had been associated with Gagaga Bunko, remembered an idea that had been put on hold for a long time. Inspired, he reworked the long-abandoned proposal into a two-volume novel. Shortly thereafter, Aniplex offered the writer the chance to turn his resurrected work into a feature film. And so, after nearly twenty years, Eisen Flugel may finally become the feature film it was always meant to be. And they all lived happily ever after.
