As previously announced, the Lycoris Recoil franchise held a special event on February 11 in Japan, featuring Chika Anzai (voice of Chisato Nishikigi), Shion Wakayama (voice of Takina Inoue), Ami Koshimizu (voiced by Mizuki Nakahara), Misaki Kuno (voiced by Kurumi), and other guests.
Given the magnitude of the event, it was already expected that there would be a major announcement for the franchise, and it did. During the event, the production of a new animation project for Lycoris Recoil was announced , without specifying whether it is a second season, a movie or an OVA project. Therefore, fans will have to wait for more information soon, but it must already be a relief to be assured that "the story has not ended."
The series premiered on July 2 in Japan and had a total of thirteen episodes, while the Crunchyroll platform was in charge of its distribution in the West. It quickly became one of the most successful franchises in the physical sales market, selling more than twenty thousand copies with each new release and becoming the series with the highest number of cumulative sales in the first week of the entire year 2022.
Synopsis of Lycoris Recoil
The number of terrorist acts in Japan has never been lower, thanks to the efforts of a syndicate called Direct Attack (DA). The organization raises orphaned girls as assassins to carry out killings under its "Lycoris" program. Takina Inoue is an exceptional Lycoris, with a strong sense of will and a penchant for perfection. Unfortunately, a hostage situation tests her patience, and the resulting act of insubordination gets her transferred out of the DA. She's not thrilled about losing the only place she ever belonged, but reluctantly arrives at her new base of operations: LycoReco, a disguised diner.
However, Takina's new partner turns out to be very different from what she imagined. Despite being the famous Lycoris prodigy, Chisato Nishikigi seems almost unconcerned with her obligations. She drags Takina into all sorts of odd jobs under the simple explanation of helping people in need. Takina is further taken aback when Chisato takes down a group of armed assailants without killing any of them. Feeling like a fish out of water, Takina is determined to rejoin the DA, but Chisato is determined to show her that there is more to life than just taking it.
