The light novel
market is constantly expanding, but the isekai genre never stops offering new
stories one after another. Because this genre is oversaturated, there
is a much greater chance that a somewhat successful work will get an anime
adaptation, it is a simple matter of the market.
And the fact that
there are so many novels of this genre means that authors have to add more and
more creativity so that their stories do not seem recycled from another. This
has taken isekai plots to an increasingly absurd level, with invincible
protagonists. that fulfill the “power fantasies” that readers of this genre so
want to see.
And this is
where Tsuyoshi Fujitaka comes in , author of the “ My
Instant Death Ability is So Overpowered, No One in This Other World Stands a
Chance Against Me! ” franchise. ( Sokushi Cheat ga Saikyou
sugite, Isekai no Yatsura ga Marude Aite ni Naranai n desu ga. ).” If
you don't know this story, it is inspiring an anime adaptation currently airing
and the description for it writes:
- Yogiri Takato wakes
up in absolute chaos during a school field trip and discovers that
everyone in his class has been transported to another world. Somehow, he
himself had managed to sleep through the entire experience, missing out on
the gifts bestowed upon the others by a mysterious sage who appeared to
transport them. Worse still, he and another classmate were ruthlessly
abandoned by his friends, left as bait to distract a nearby dragon. Although
he doesn't care much about the idea of dying, he reluctantly decides to
protect his only companion. After all, a level 1000 monster has nothing to
do against its secret power of invoking instant death with a single
thought. If
he can stay awake long enough to bother using it, that is...
Well, it
turns out that Tsuyoshi Fujitaka-sensei made a post on Twitter where he stated
that, no matter the method, you can never defeat Yogiri, the protagonist of his
work. But he also asked his readers a question,
what would happen if he faced the protagonist of another franchise? In
his words, no matter if the characteristics of the worlds they come from were
maintained, there is no way they can defeat Yogiri.
In fact,
fans of the franchise have taken it upon themselves to list any possible
situation, but none of them are capable of defeating the protagonist with the power to invoke instant death with just a thought:
- Enemies die
instantly just by thinking about it and cannot defend themselves.
- Instant death
thought automatically upon noticing enemy killing intent.
- Automatic use even
if time is stopped.
- Even if a nuclear
bomb surrounds it from afar, it kills radiation, explosion and heat.
- The world, the
universe, the gods, the demigods, the physical laws and everything else
can die instantly.
- Anyone can die if
there is a possibility of death, even if there is no intention to do harm.
- The character dies
as soon as he tries to attack, even though he can ignore time.
- If you try to go
back in time or go to the future, you die.
- The enemy dies even
though the concept of death does not exist for him.
- The character dies
even though he is ubiquitous in multiple dimensions.
- The character dies
even if it is a spongy entity, such as matter, space or concept.
- The death of a
person who is not trying to attack you is common.
- Characters who
resurrect infinitely from a state in which all the matter that makes up
their bodies has disappeared also die.
- Characters who try
to attack from outside the world (another dimension) also die.
- He can kill fluffy
objects, including concepts, with a thought.
Certainly a
character who can invoke instant death even automatically upon detecting
certain aggressive intent can seem virtually invincible, but what did
fans think about it?
- « What if
they eliminate this guy's parents in a time travel? Would it disappear? ».
- « Then I
would be on the same level as Zeno-sama? "Although God does not
require murderous intent to eliminate entire universes ."
- " Neither
Satoru Gojo, nor Saitama, nor Ainz Ooal Gown, nor Giorno Giovanna, nor Son
Gokú, nor Rimuru Tempest, nor Ultimate Madoka, nor Zeno-sama are capable
of defeating this subject ."
- « And what
kind of hobby would an invincible subject have? ».
- « Can the
undead be defeated? ».
- " I
thought he was a sick otaku, but he is the author of the work ."
- « It's
curious because it kills zombies and even gods who are beyond the concept
of death. I mean, how far would you go with that? ».
- « Power
relationships with publishers and authors determine who wins and who loses .»
- « The best
argument I have heard in a long time ».
- « I find
this quite embarrassing. I wonder why they can do it with impunity .
- " Readers
are too stupid to notice the almighty contradiction ."
- « His only
abilities are to cause the death of a specific target and detect his own
killing intent. "You cannot detect the intent to kill unless you are
the direct target of the attack ."
- " If a
Dragon Ball character destroyed the sun, they would freeze and die ."
- « The
protagonist does not try to kill people. He only does it in self-defense,
which makes it interesting .
- « Publication
is determined by the editor's selection process, so the moment a story
like this is published, it is considered unsellable. In this sense, this
work is hopeful for amateur novelists .
- « What if I
told you that everyone should die? ».
- " This
is a great hero with instant death traps ."
