A few years ago, a
school forced a brown-haired high school student in Japan to
dye her hair black. The incident created quite a stir and sparked
debates. Since then, Japanese Twitter users revealed some strange
school rules they have faced in their lives with the hashtags #こんな校則いらない( we don't need this kind of school rules )
and #ブラック校則( “black” school rules ).
Let's look at some of
the most ridiculous ones below (it should be noted that these are not general
rules, but that Internet users in Japan shared some rules that were
applied in their corresponding schools and that left them marked ever since ):
- 1. Female students'
underwear must be white. The girls meet in a separate room. The teachers
unbutton their blouses and turn their skirts inside out to inspect them.
- 2. Wrapping a scarf around
your neck even if you have a weak throat is not allowed , while
using a towel is.
- 3. In summer, even if it
is hot at a school assembly, you cannot cool yourself by using a fan, your
clothes, or your hand. Everyone tried to endure it but one
student fell to the ground with a seizure.
- 4. The bicycle helmet that
the school gives you if you ride a bicycle cannot be changed, even if it
breaks in an accident. The school tries to emphasize the care of
the helmet, since it is the only one you will have. But it makes you
wonder how much they value a student's life, asking them to wear a broken
helmet until graduation.
- 5. As a woman, you are
required to use tampons during your menstrual period when you have to
attend a swimming class. If you decide to stay out, you will have
to attend additional classes during the summer holidays and swim 500
meters. If you choose not to participate, you must attend supplementary
classes during the summer holidays and swim 500 meters.
- 6. Regardless of the
distance and how heavy your backpack is, you have to walk to school, even
if it takes more than 40 minutes. Also, you are not allowed to
hydrate.
- 7. Wearing sheer tights or white
socks to school is fine, but black tights are not allowed for
some particular reason.
- 8. No noise is allowed
during lunch preparation time and the last ten minutes of lunch. Otherwise,
you will not have the option to order a second dish or order less food the
next day.
- 9. You are required to
join an after-school activity club.
- 10. Being denied entry to school
every morning for getting a perm and having dark hair. After
showing the certificate to prove that her hair is natural, one girl was
denied entry for having a darker skin color.
Like all rules and
regulations, their purpose is to bring order. But in some cases they may seem
