The anime
based on the light novel series Though I Am an Inept Villainess: Tale
of the Butterfly-Rat Body Swap in the Maiden Court today revealed a
special seasonal-themed illustration showing its main characters enjoying the
rainy season.
An image
that captures the essence of the rains
The new
piece features Kou Reirin and Shu Keigetsu strolling
through a garden in bloom in the rain. Both wear elegant courtly clothes and
carry red paper umbrellas to protect themselves from the water. Reirin shows
joy at the flowers, while Keigetsu frowns at the weather.
Origin
and production of anime
The
original story began as a light novel in July 2020 on the Shosetsuka ni
Naro site, written by Satsuki Nakamura and
illustrated by YukiKana. Since December 2020, Ichijinsha has
published 10 volumes under his Ichijinsha Novels imprint. On the other
hand, Ei Ohitsuji's manga adaptation has been published since
June 2021 in Monthly Comic Zero Sum, with eight volumes to date.
Seven
Seas Entertainment distributes
both the English version of the light novel and the manga adaptation with art
by Ei Ohitsuji.
The
animated adaptation is in the hands of Doga Kobo, under the
direction of Mitsue Yamazaki. The series is composed by Yoshiko
Nakamura and the character design is the work of Ai Kikuchi.
An official release date has not yet been announced.
Official
synopsis for those who don't know the story
As the
crown prince's favorite, Kou Reirin seems destined to be the
next empress. But everything changes when her rival, Shu Keigetsu,
nicknamed the "sewer rat" of the court, pushes her from a balcony.
Reirin survives, but awakens in the body of Keigetsu, who used magic to swap
their bodies and snatch her position. Now, Reirin, who was sickly all her life,
is determined to harness this new body to change her destiny, not letting even
the threat of execution stop her.
