Jason DeMarco , co-creator of Toonami and vice president and creative director of Adult Swim broadcasts, recently held an online interview about “ Ninja Kamui .  He revealed whether the anime-original action series from former “Jujutsu Kaisen” director Sung-Hoo Park has been deemed successful enough for another season.

Via Twitter, DeMarco responded to fan questions related to the Adult Swim action series. At the moment, the second season of Ninja Kamui has not yet been confirmed. However, " Cartoon Network and Max are delighted with the first season of Ninja Kamui ." DeMarco also stated that " Toonami is doing well and both the network and our bosses are happy with our ratings and the performance of our original series!" ».

Ninja Kamui, which dates back to the action anime era of the 90s, is a revenge story in which Joe Logan will avenge the death of his wife and son, murdered by his former ninja clan. The Adult Swim series is directed by Park, best known in the anime world as director of the first season of “Jujutsu Kaisen.” Like many of MAPPA's top talents, Park left the controversial anime studio to pursue other projects. According to DeMarco, Park " was asked if he was interested in doing a ninja anime." He said 'of course' if we gave him total freedom ."

As the anime industry continues to evolve based on the impact of streaming, Toonami and Adult Swim have been seeking original anime productions behind the creative teams of today's most popular anime series, rather than acquiring said series due to to rising licensing costs and deals from rival streamers. Previously, Toonami produced some original anime series with Crunchyroll, resulting in “Fena: Pirate Princess” and “Shenmue: The Animation.” However, Sony's acquisition of Crunchyroll led to the cessation of future and ongoing productions between the anime streaming giant and Warner Bros. Discovery.

While “Ninja Kamui” has been considered a critical success, previous anime originals, such as “Housing Complex C,” have seen disappointing results. The “FLCL” sequel, in particular, has divided anime fans over its various television sequels, which have failed to capture the magic of the original six-episode series from 2000. However, the creator of “Chainsaw Man ”, Tatsuki Fujimoto, included “FLCL: Shoegaze”, the fifth and final season of the FLCL revival, among the best anime of 2023.

To finish, look at the comparison between the main battle of the first episode and that of the last episode. This video is viral because it showed the decline in the visual quality of the series. Is it really a success?
