During the Aniplex Online Fest event
, a new promotional video was revealed for the sequel film, “ Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica:
Walpurgis no Kaiten .” The video confirms
that the premiere remains scheduled for winter 2025 in Japanese
theaters (i.e. the last months of next year), after having been
recently delayed.
The original anime premiered during the Winter
2021 season (January-March) and featured twelve episodes. After two
compilation films, the third, titled “ Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica:
Hangyaku no Monogatari ” served as a direct sequel upon its release in
October 2013.
Seven years later, the spin-off “ Magia
Record: Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Gaiden ” was adapted in Winter
2020 with a total of thirteen episodes. It was followed by a second season of eight episodes
in Summer 2021 , and a third season of four episodes in Spring
2022. However, this was all a spin-off, not a direct sequel.
Synopsis
of Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica
Madoka
Kanami and Sayaka Miki are regular high school girls with regular lives, but
that all changes when they meet Kyuubey, a cat-like magical creature, and
Homura Akemi, the new transfer student. Kyuubey offers them a proposition: he
will grant any of their wishes, and in exchange, each of them will become a
magical girl (mahou shoujo), gaining the power to fulfill their dreams.
However,
Homura Akemi, who is already a magical girl, urges them not to accept the
offer, stating that it is not as good as it sounds. This is a story of hope,
despair, and friendship, dealing with the difficulties of becoming and being a
magical girl, and the great price that must be paid to make a dream come true.
