During a special event, a new promotional video was
revealed for “ Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten ”,
the next film in the “ Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica ” franchise.
The video confirms again that the premiere is scheduled for late 2025
in theaters in Japan , having been delayed again.
The original anime premiered during the Winter
2011 season (January-March) and consisted of twelve episodes. After
two compilation films, the third, titled “ Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica:
Hangyaku no Monogatari ” served as a direct sequel when it premiered
in October 2013.
Seven years later, the spin-off “ Magia Record: Mahou
Shoujo Madoka Magica Gaiden ” was adapted in Winter 2020 with
a total of thirteen episodes. It was followed by a second season of eight
episodes in Summer 2021 , and a third season of four episodes
in Spring 2022. However, this was all a spin-off, not a direct
sequel.
Synopsis of Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica
Madoka Kanami and Sayaka Miki are regular high school
girls with regular lives, but that all changes when they meet Kyuubey, a
cat-like magical creature, and Homura Akemi, the new transfer student. Kyuubey
offers them a proposition: he will grant any of their wishes, and in exchange,
each of them will become a magical girl (mahou shoujo), gaining the power to
fulfill their dreams.
However, Homura Akemi, who is already a magical girl,
urges them not to accept the offer, stating that it is not as good as it
sounds. This is a story of hope, despair, and friendship, dealing with the
difficulties of becoming and being a magical girl, and the great price that
must be paid to make a dream come true.
