At the
end of the “ Love Live! Series Asia Tour 2024 ” event, something quite unexpected
was announced inside the K-Arena Yokohama facilities: a mysterious new project
called “ Ikizu Live! Love Live! Bluebird ”. According to the report, at
the end of the concert the lights went out and a video appeared on the screen
with the hashtag “ #IkizuraiBu (#UnbearableToLiveClub) “, a
pun on the Japanese pronunciation of “Love Live!”.
However,
what left everyone with their mouths open was the promotional visual, which
shows a girl crying while dancing. The audience immediately reacted with a great murmur, but no
further information was offered on the subject, which has given rise to a
myriad of theories about it.
Since its
debut in 2010, the “Love Live!” franchise has grown with new projects such as
“ Love Live! Sunshine!! “, “ Love Live! Nijigasaki
High School Idol Club “, “ Love Live! Superstar!! “,
and “ Love Live! Hasu no Sora Jogakuin School Idol Club “.
However, this new project has had a completely unusual presentation, with a
more dramatic air.
It is still
unclear what this project actually means and fan theories are not stopping, but
one thing is more than certain: interest in this franchise has definitely been
rekindled. Will it be a new group? Will it be a response to the growing
interest in the girl bands that “Bocchi the Rock!” revived a few years ago? The
comments are not stopping:
- « So you watched the
latest musical anime and decided that Love Live! is too light for current
trends? Very happy. »
- « There's only one key
illustration, but does it look dramatic? After the trivial third season of
Superstar, and considering what the girl band series are doing (Bocchi the
Rock, Girls Band Cry, BanG Dream MyGO/Ave Mujica), Love Live really needs
to step up its game and not keep doing the same thing over and over again »
- « Well, this is
definitely going for a darker tone than before. I'm curious what kind of
themes they'll tackle and if they'll be able to successfully develop them ».
- « Not to be confused
with Liz and the Blue Bird .»
- « For now, I’m
skeptical… On the one hand, I’m generally fine with a slightly darker
story, not everything has to be sunshine and rainbows (pun intended).
Putting a slightly more serious spin on the classic Love Live formula to
make it more realistic could be a refreshing change. On the other hand, I
didn’t enjoy MyGO and I don’t really like Ave Mujica because it feels
unrealistically forced. Since the entire cast is based on a real band, the
outcome is practically predetermined, so it feels completely pointless .
»
- « I hope it's not
inspired by Project Bluebird either. High school idols under mind control
would be too dark .»
- « Mmm, I have mixed
feelings about the news. I love that the Love Live! franchise doesn't have
too much drama, so more drama doesn't excite me as much. On the other
hand, the formula is getting a bit repetitive for me .»
- " I have mixed
feelings about this ."
- « I wouldn't mind a
darker tone like what BanG Dream is doing right now, but I'm all for
anything from this franchise .»
- « Let them experiment
with a spin-off. A darker tone, if done well, would be a welcome expansion
of this franchise’s emotional range. I like how different Nijigasaki is
(see my avatar?), and I even enjoyed its foray into a fantasy world! Worst
case scenario, there will probably be an anime adaptation of Link! Like!
Love Live! anyway .»
