Shueisha
announced on Wednesday that Toshio Sako 's latest manga , Genikasuri ,
has been added to the MANGA Plus platform . The first
14 chapters are currently available for free to readers.
A story
of revenge on the dark side of boxing
In Genikasuri ,
we follow Ryo Harima , a former professional boxer who awakens
from a two-year vegetative state following a devastating
fight. Upon regaining consciousness, he finds his career over ,
his father deceased, and his gym betraying him . Despairing
but driven by rage, Ryo decides to return to the world of boxing—this time as
a promoter .
With a dark
and realistic tone, the story explores the most corrupt and
manipulative side of professional boxing, moving away from the
traditional sports approach. It's a plot of ambition, betrayal, and
power , set in a world where fights are won not only in the ring but
also in the offices.
A new
project by the author of Usogui
Toshio
Sako launched Genikasuri in
Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine on February 6,
2025 , and the first compiled book volume is expected to
ship on June 18, 2025 (UTC+2).
The author
is best known for his work Usogui , a psychological
thriller centered on mental bets and logical clashes, which was published
between 2006 and 2017 with a total of 49 volumes .
This series inspired an OVA in 2012 and a live-action adaptation
released in theaters in February 2022 .
Most
recently, Sako concluded the Batuque manga in February
2024 , a martial arts story that began in Young Jump and
was later moved to digital format in Tonari no Young Jump and
the Yanjan! app . The work ended with 18 volumes ,
the last of which was published in March 2024 .
With Genikasuri ,
Toshio Sako returns with an intense and dark proposal that promises to
break the mold of traditional sports manga, attracting both boxing
fans and lovers of psychological drama.
