The
combination of magic, nostalgia and epic combats is about to make the
definitive leap to television. During the Disney Entertainment Showcase panel
at the D23 convention, it was officially announced that an original anime based
on Square Enix's legendary Kingdom Hearts franchise
is currently in development and will arrive exclusively on Disney Channel
and Disney+ screens.
This new
television project has the direct collaboration of the creator of the
saga, Tetsuya Nomura, together with the creative team of the
Japanese developer. The series will offer an all-new narrative that will expand
the franchise's multiverse while paying homage to its iconic characters. During
the presentation, a first promotional image was shown that shows a mysterious
young man from behind holding a Keyblade on his shoulder with an artistic style
very different from that of the interactive deliveries. Nomura commented that
the writing and art team has designed multiple original characters for this
journey, inviting fans to let their imaginations run wild while the next
details are revealed.
As if the
announcement of the animated project wasn't enough to ignite the conversation,
the event also served as a stage to reveal important news about Kingdom
Hearts IV. The long-awaited title will hit the market at the end of
2027 and will be released simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox
Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. In addition, an
official trailer was presented confirming that the game will include a world
based on the Disney and Pixar film Coco, where actor Benjamin Bratt
will once again lend his voice to the character of Ernesto de la Cruz.
