Kadokawa  has confirmed that the Kimi no Iro ( *The Colors Within*) manga, an adaptation of Naoko Yamada 's latest animated film , will come to an end with the fourth compiled book volume , which will be published on June 10 in Japan.


A story of visible emotions and shared melodies


The manga, illustrated by Sanami Suzuki , is based on the original film produced by Science SARU , known for its unique art style and introspective narratives. The story follows Totsuko , a high school student in Nagasaki who possesses the strange ability to see the "colors" of people's emotions .


Wanting to keep her loved ones from feeling negative emotions, Totsuko often lies or adapts to each situation to maintain harmony. However, everything changes when she meets a mysterious woman with a glowing aura in an antique bookstore, and a music-mad boy who dreams of forming a band. Thus begins a story about three sensitive souls united by emotions and music.


A short but moving tour

The manga began serialization in July 2024 , and its third volume was released on February 10 of this year. Although its run will be short, the manga has been well received by fans of the original work for its poetic tone and delicate visuals .


The international impact of the film


The original The Colors Within film debuted in Japan on August 30, 2024 , after being rescheduled from its planned fall 2023 date. In the United States , the film was released in theaters on January 24 with both English subtitles and dubbed . It was later released digitally on April 1 and on Blu-ray on May 27 , thanks to GKIDS .


The film had its North American premiere on October 18, 2024 , at the Animation Is Film Festival in Los Angeles, an event organized by GKIDS , the Annecy Film Festival, and Variety magazine . There, the film won the Audience Award .


Global distribution


In addition to GKIDS, which acquired rights for North America, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand , the film was also licensed by Anime Ltd. for Europe, PLAION PICTURES for the Italian and German speaking territories, and CHARADES for the rest of the regions.
