WEBTOON's Japanese
subsidiary, LINE Manga, officially announced that the hit
webtoon Teenage Mercenary will have an anime
adaptation for television. The work, created by YC and Rakyeon,
has led the service's reading rankings since its launch in November
2020.
A story
of survival in high school
The webtoon
follows the life of Ijin Yu, a young man who lost his parents in a
plane crash when he was eight years old and ended up becoming a mercenary
child to survive in a foreign land. Ten years later, she returns to
Korea to reunite with her family, but adjusting to a "normal" life
will not be as easy as she expected.
With only one year of high school ahead of him, Ijin will have to apply new strategies to face the battlefield that school life represents. Can she survive a year of high school... or will the institute not survive it?
Anime
details yet to be confirmed
So far, no
information has been revealed about the production team, voice cast or
release date. However, the news has generated great expectation among fans
of the webtoon, who expect an adaptation faithful to the intensity and
emotional depth of the original story.
The
announcement is part of the industry's growing interest in adapting popular
webtoons to anime format, joining the trend of titles such as Tower
of God or Noblesse.
