The
publisher Shueisha, through its official account in X (formerly
Twitter), has announced that the manga "Rurouni Kenshin: Hokkaido
Arc" will resume publication on July 4, in the August
issue of Jump SQ magazine.
The work,
written by Nobuhiro Watsuki in collaboration with his wife,
novelist Kaoru Kurosaki, had been on hiatus since the June 2024
edition due to the author's health problems. The editorial team had already
reported in September 2024 that the manga would continue to be halted
indefinitely.
A
history with turbulence and comebacks
The
Hokkaido arc began publication in September 2017, but was briefly
suspended in December of the same year due to legal
allegations against Watsuki. Serialization resumed in June 2018. Viz
Media went so far as to publish the manga simultaneously in English,
but stopped distribution after the initial hiatus.
Kenshin,
a legacy that does not stop
Rurouni
Kenshin's original
story began in 1994 in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump,
spanning 28 volumes and amassing more than 72 million
copies in circulation worldwide. The plot follows Kenshin
Himura, a former assassin who struggles to redeem himself during the Meiji
era.
The work
has been adapted multiple times, including a 95-episode anime series,
animated films, OVAs, five live-action films and even a musical
by the Takarazuka Revue.
A new
anime for a new generation
The recent
animated readaptation of the main manga premiered in July 2023 on
Fuji TV's Noitamina block, with two consecutive arcs. Its
second part began in October 2023 and was simulcast by Crunchyroll,
which also offers dubbing in multiple languages.
Currently,
it has been confirmed that the anime will have a third season, thus
expanding the universe of this iconic work for new audiences.
