protagonists, all framed by a background of castles, villages and landscapes at
sunrise and sunset, reinforcing the epic tone of the story.
An
isekai that goes beyond the typical hero
The
original story began as a web novel published on Shousetsuka ni Narou in January
2017. Later, the publishing house Overlap launched the
print edition with illustrations by Tozai under its Overlap
Bunko imprint, with a total of four volumes published
to date. In parallel, a manga adaptation illustrated by Hiroyuki Aigamo has
been published since July 2018 on the Comic Gardo site,
and already has six volumes collected.
A
production team with experience in major franchises
The
animated version is directed by Nobuyoshi Habara at the
Sunrise studio. The script is written by Kunihiko Okada (Yowamushi
Pedal), while the character design is the joint work of Hirona
Okada (Gundam Build Metaverse) and Kaoru Saito (Mobile
Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury). Rihiro Yamane is in
charge of the monster design and Satoshi Igarashi is in charge
of the music composition.
What is
My Status as an Assassin about?
Seven
Seas Entertainment,
which is responsible for the English publication of both the novel and the
manga, describes the story as follows:
Oda Akira is the typical
invisible boy in the classroom. But that same quality saves him when his class
is transported into a fantasy world. While everyone is assigned to heroic
roles, Akira becomes a stealthy assassin thanks to his abnormally high
starting stats. He soon discovers that there are dark secrets behind the
kingdom that summoned them, and by investigating more than necessary, he earns
the enmity of the king himself. With the help of Amelia, an
elven medium, Akira will embark on a mission of revenge and justice.
With a mix
of action, mystery, and revenge in a magical world, this story
promises to become one of the most talked-about titles of the fall 2025 season.
