A renewed cast for a new stage

Along with the renewed narrative, three new characters arrive that will expand the universe of the series:

  • Toshihiko Seki (Mousse in Ranma 1/2) as Yasuhide Hatakeyama
  • Kenichiro Matsuda (Batou in Ghost in the Shell: Arise) as Tsuchiura
  • Kazuya Nakai (Ryuji Suguro in Blue Exorcist) as Kiichi Okada

All of them will appear in the upcoming episodes of the anime.

The Story Behind the Demon Hunting Sword

The original work is a novel written by Motoo Nakanishi and illustrated by Tamaki, published by Futabasha in Japan. Seven Seas Entertainment distributes both the novels and the manga adaptation (with art by Yu Satomi) in English.

The animated adaptation is directed by Kazuya Aiura at Yokohama Animation Laboratory, with Deko Akao in charge of series composition and Taro Ikegami in character design.

What is Sword of the Demon Hunter about?

The anime, which premiered on March 31 and can be seen in simulcast through HIDIVE, immerses us in a supernatural historical fantasy. Set in the Edo era, it tells the story of Itsukihime, a shrine maiden in the mountain village of Kadono, and Jinta, a wandering orphan who together with his younger sister Suzune grows up under their protection.

When a mysterious demon that speaks of the future and the threat of a Demon God appears, Jinta ventures into the forest to confront him, thus beginning a journey that will cross centuries of history, from the Edo era to the Heisei, while reflecting on the weight of wielding his sword.
