This year's
15th issue of Hakusensha's Hana to Yume magazine
announced last Friday that Mizuho Kusanagi's manga Yona of
the Dawn (Akatsuki no Yona) will go on a three-month
hiatus. Serialization will resume in the 21st issue of the journal, which
will be published on October 3.
During this
break, the magazine will dedicate its pages to a retrospective tour of
the most important events in manga, allowing readers to relive or catch up on
the story.
A manga
that is approaching its outcome
Kusanagi
confirmed in June 2024 that Yona of the Dawn has entered
its final arc, marking the final stretch of a series that has
captivated its readers since its inception in 2009. Hakusensha
released the 46th compilation volume on June 20, while Viz
Media released the 44th volume in English on June 3.
The
story of a princess who lost everything
The manga
follows Yona, a red-haired princess who lives a dream life in her
kingdom until, on her 16th birthday, she witnesses a family tragedy that
takes everything away from her. Forced to flee with her loyal protector Hak,
Yona must face a world full of dangers as she searches for a way to recover
what she lost and discover her true destiny.
A work
with multiple adaptations
The manga's
popularity has earned it several adaptations, including a 24-episode
anime series in 2014, as well as three OVAs released
between 2015 and 2016. Funimation distributed the
animated series in physical format. In addition, Yona of the Dawn has
been staged several times. The first stage play premiered in March 2016,
followed by new adaptations in November 2018, November 2019,
and a more recent musical version in July 2024.
